Q: What are the different security mechanisms offered by SpyWall to secure browser and prevent spyware?
A. SpyWall uses a multi-layered strategy to secure browser and defeat spyware:
- Prevent exploitation of browser security holes to install spyware
- Scan and clean spyware, rootkits, etc.
- Block spyware sites
- Block download of executable content without user permission
- Prevent modification of key registry items
- Behavior-based detection of key loggers

Q: I am unable to access a Website?
A. If the "Attacks blocked" count in the SpyWall toolbar is going up, then the Website is a spyware, adware, or untrusted Website and is being blocked. . On the "Trusted Web sites" tab, add that Website as "Permitted" and you will be able to access it. If you add that site as "Trusted" (Configuration?Web Filtering ), SpyWall will allow that site to bypass SpyWall protection.
Q: I am unable to download a file?
A. If the "Attacks blocked" count in the SpyWall toolbar is going up, then the file download is being blocked. Default of SpyWall is to block download of executables (.exe, .dll, .bat) and installer (.msi, .msm, .msp, .mst, .idt, .cub, .cab, .inf, .pcp). From "SpyWall settings" tab, edit the "Disallow extension" and allow the file type that is being blocked. If the user does not wish to change the rule, press the "CTRL" key and click on the download link to get one time exception. If you expect to download files from that Website regularly, you may consider adding it to your trusted sites and SpyWall will allow download.
Q: Can SpyWall reduce advertisements displayed on a Web page?
A: Yes. SpyWall has an internal list of several thousand adware sites. To block these sites, enable the "Block known adware sites" option from "Configuration --> SpyWall Settings" tab.
SpyWall can also filter the advertisements from search engine results.
Q: SpyWall blocked my Web login to the firewall/router?
A: Sometimes SpyWall may block Web login to a local firewall/router. Please add the IP address of the firewall/router to the list of allowed Web logins (Configuration-->Web Filtering-->Web Logins & Anti-phishing).
Q: How do I remove Aurora or Cool Web Search using SpyWall?
A: Run the regular scan and enable the "System Freeze" option after the scan. Delete all malicious entries found by SpyWall. Audit the BHOs and "Startup" area. Delete the entries you find suspicious. Click on the "Reboot now" button.
Q: Rootkit and keylogger scan found some "Hooked Function"?
A: If the rootkit scanner detects "Hooked Functions" in kernel, then it is not a good sign. However, some anti-virus software also do this.
Q: Should I reboot PC after the rootkit scan?
A: Yes. We recommend a reboot after the rootkit scan because the rootkit scan increases the virtual memory usage.
Q: I used the SpyWall "Scan and Clean" wizard to generate a log file. Can Trlokom help me in auditing the log file?
