SpyWall Basic Configuration

Q:  Will SpyWall allow me to view Startup items and browser helper objects (BHOs)?

A.  Yes, you can view all the startup items and BHOs from the "System Settings" tab in SpyWall.

Q: How do I disable SpyWall?

A.  Start the Web browser and there is a button in the SpyWall toolbar to enable/disable the software. Alternatively, uncheck the "Enable SpyWall" checkbox in the "Configuration" tab.
If you need a temporary bypass of SpyWall protection, just press the "Ctrl" or "Shift" key while performing the action blocked by SpyWall.

Q: I installed SpyWall, but do not see the toolbar?

A.  You have to manually check the "Trlokom IE Toolbar". If it is checked, uncheck and check again.

Q: How do I make sure that my machine is protected?

A.  Make sure that SpyWall is not disabled while surfing the Web.

Q:  How can I prevent a user from changing the settings for SpyWall?

A.  Password protecting the SpyWall application will prevent the user from making any changes to SpyWall settings. Check the "Password protection for configuration" after adding a password, under management options in "Configuration" tab.

Q:  How can I prevent users from downloading executables via the browser?

A.  SpyWall security settings allow control over what specific file types can be downloaded via the Web browser. The default is to allow all files types except installer (cab, msi, msm, msp, idt, cub, pcp, ocx) and executables (exe, bat, dll). Add the file types to the disallowed list, and the users will not be able to download those file types via the Web browser.

Q:  I want to download an installer package that I need, but SpyWall is not allowing me to download it. Is there an easy way download the file without changing the rule or disabling SpyWall?

A.  If you are absolutely certain that the installer package is not harmful, press the Shift key and then click on the download link. SpyWall will grant a one-time exception and you will be able to download the file. If you really trust that site then add that site to the trusted sites list.

Q:  How do I add a site to the "Trusted Websites" list?

A.  Click on the "Trusted Web Sites" tab in the "Web Filter" tab and then click on the "Add" button, enter the Web site name, and select the "Trusted" option.

Q:  Can SpyWall secure other Web browsers clients the way it secures the IE?

A.  There will be an update to SpyWall soon that will secure IMs, e-mail clients, and other Web browsers.

Q: I do not wish to see the SpyWall notifications about blocked attacks?

A.  Uncheck the "Enable notification" flag under "Logging" category from SpyWall Configuration-> SpyWall Settings tab.
