Quality of Service (QoS) FAQ

Q: What is QoS?
A. QoS stands for Quality of Service. It controls the amount of network bandwidth that each application is allowed to use.
Q: How do I control the bandwidth between VPN sites or to the Internet?
A. In the QoS Policies window, define a QoS policy enforcement point. Then add the QoS policies to be enforced at that point by defining the maximum bandwidth allowed between a pair of subnets.
Q: How do I monitor the bandwidth between VPN sites or to the Internet?
A. Click the "Network Traffic" button in the Configuration window and enter the name or IP address of the OmniVPN gateway whose traffic you wish to examine. The gateway does not need to be on your local subnet, but it must be configured to allow network monitoring requests. (Click the "Ports used by OmniVPN" button in the Configuration window.)
You can also enter the name or IP address of an OmniVPN client. This is useful for monitoring the traffic to/from a particular file/web/ftp server.
Q: I have set up bandwidth limiting between two subnets, but it is not working.
A. There several reasons why it may not work:
- You may not have specified the traffic type correctly in the QoS rule. Each rule must be classified as VPN or non-VPN.
- The default bandwidth allocation between the VPN and non-VPN traffic may be less than the bandwidth required by the QoS rule.
